Children's Liturgy Leader's

(Roles and Responsibilities of a Leader)

Leading Children's Liturgy isn't a difficult task.  All it requires is an occasional commitment, and an enthusiasm to share the Word of God with young people in our parish.

Here is a brief list of the leader's roles and responsibilities:

1.  Be aware of your turn to teach.  After Call to Serve forms have been collected, a Children's Liturgy Leader schedule will be created and a paper copy will be distributed to all volunteers.  The schedule will also be posted on this website for easy access.  As well, volunteers' names will be on the weekly bulletin.

2.  Preparation:  It is not mandatory that you prepare for the lesson; however, the weekly lessons will be posted on the website approximately 2-3 weeks in advanced, so that if you want to look it over prior to your Sunday, you may.

3.  Prior to the 11 o'clock mass on Sunday, the leader will be responsible for collecting the Children's Liturgy Cross from the vestibule (the room at the back of the church) and placing the cross on the alter, closest to Fr. Salvador.  The cross will signify that we have a leader and Children's Liturgy will take place during mass.

4.  Fr. Salvador will call the children to the front of the church for a blessing right after the introduction rite.  From there the leader will lead the children downstairs to the Children's Liturgy room.

5. Read through the lesson with the class and ask discussion questions. There will be sponge activities/materials provided if there is extra time.

6.  Approximately 20-25 minutes will be spent in the classroom.  At offertory time, lead the children upstairs and children will quietly return to their seats.
